Jimmy Page; Jack White LOVED Metallica’s St. Anger Album

Bob Rock’s a legendary album producer who’s worked with Michael Buble, Cher and Tal Bachmann (remember him?), but has rock cred because of some of the rock albums under his belt.

The Cult’s “Sonic Temple”. Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood”. The last few albums (including the upcoming one) from The Offspring. And a bunch of Metallica albums. Including the kick-ass self-titled “Black Album” of ’91.

And “St. Anger”…which a lot of Metallica fans panned.

However, not everyone piled on when the album came out in’03. Via BLABBERMOUTH:

According to Rock,(Jimmy) Page expressed his appreciation for the CD when the produced ran into the guitarist while they were both eating breakfast at hotel. “I know Jimmy,” Bob said. “He got up and walked over to me, gave me a big hug, and said, ‘It’s great to see you,’ blah blah, ‘I love the ‘St. Anger’ album.'”

White‘s praise came at a screening of the documentary “It Might Get Loud”, which co-starred Page. “I was at the premiere, and Jack White came over,” Bob recalled. “He says, ‘I’m Jack White.’ I said, ‘I know.’ He says, ‘That’s my favorite METALLICA album.’ So,” laughed Rock, “I’m okay with those two.”

Bob Rock Flower Shirt

Personally? Not a fan of the album myself. But Bob’s track record speaks for itself as a producer of rock albums and pop albums. Plus, I can’t make Hawaiian shirts work like that.

And the new Offspring track “Coming For You” – which we’re playing – is a pretty good indication that Rock knows rock. – Mike
