Don’t Mess Up the Unofficial Seating Chart At the Dinner Table

Growing up, my family really didn’t have official spots at the dinner table, but we did have them on the couch. We use to get into arguments when someone would take our spot on the couch.

A survey done by SWNS found around half of Americans get an uncomfortable feeling when someone sits in their unofficial spot. We get so used to sitting somewhere it throws off our mojo when we can’t sit there for various reasons.

This same article states that we feel this uncomfortable feeling because we have positive memories associated with that spot. It can be as simple as we laugh every time we sit there or as complete as it’s our favorite view out the window.

It kind of reinforces that college theory. We sit in the same spot in every class because it’s comfortable and we learn better by doing that.

Being the prankster/jokester I am, I think from now on I’m going to mess with folks and sit in their spots and see what happens.
